Yamas

The Yamas - attitudes or restraints to practice which help foster peace of mind.

The yamas are “restraints” and are practiced as attitudes so through thoughts, words and deeds (cognitive behavioural so to speak). As with the other 8 limbs of yoga such as asana and breath work, they are practices to establish and help maintain a state of yoga which is a clear, steady and present state of mind. I like to teach and practice the yamas by encouraging curiosity about how you relate to these attitudes in the context of your life. They are something to cultivate in your daily interactions with others, the environment and yourself not “good” or “bad” rules to judge by. This week in some of our groups we explored how these attitudes create more peace of mind. 💖
